The Burning City
The show takes place in Helsinki in the beginning of the nineteenhundreds during war times. In the play we see stories from inside the city which is constantly under a threat. It tells of the people whose every day that is constantly interrupted. The story focus is strongly on strong female stories from the war. A story that is not often told, but to which all Finland has a relationship to.
The Burning City was made as my last production after my one year's directorship at Helsinki Swedish-speaking Student Theatre.
"Studentteatern's version of Sirpa Kähkönen's play set up in war-time, gives out an impression that is stripped and bare. One of many high points of Jermo Grundström's direction is the physical choreographies. "
